About Alex
Born and raised on the Rock of Gibraltar Alex was influenced by the cosmopolitan nature of Gibraltar. As a duty-free port at the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea, merchants imported goods from all over the world. This included many exotic fabrics from nearby Morrocco to the Orient. Alex took much interest in the merchandise on offer in the many shops and bazaars, amazed at the variety and quality of beautiful textiles available. This ignited a lifelong passion and interest in Art. Completing his secondary education at Gibraltar Grammar Alex went to the UK and attended Hastings College of Arts & Technology enrolling on a BA foundation course studying History of Art, Costume Design and Exhibition Design. During these studies Alex was exposed to other creative fields including Fashion and Textiles. Thereafter Alex undertook a three-year College Diploma in Fashion, Textiles & Marketing earning his diploma with Credit. A further year of study followed specializing in Design and Fashion Illustration for a successful assessment to Diploma Membership of the Chartered Society of Designers (London). Alex's portfolio was successfully assessed by iconic designers Mary Quant and Jean Muir both assessor members of the Society. After graduating Alex worked in London gaining valuable experience initially with Seneca Furs as a designer but felt uncomfortable designing coats using real fur pelts and quit. Alex then worked with manufacturer and retailer Lord Kitchener designing leather and denim ranges for their London retail outlets including Carnaby Street, Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus. The experience gained was invaluable as it gave Alex confidence to work as a freelance designer and illustrator. His illustrations have appeared in many international publications over the years including Harper's Bazaar, Drapers Record, Vogue and used for promoting Fashion shows including the London Fashion Expo. Alex emigrated to Perth, Australia during the Americas Cup and hit the ground running in Perth aligning himself with the Kookaburra Syndicate handling their design and marketing needs. The exposure of his design work led to a designer and illustrator position with fashion label Skid Rose. Designing ready to wear ranges and handling all their marketing over a few years proved beneficial in understanding the unique Australian market. A stint with the Australian Wool Authority followed gaining valuable insight to Australia's wool industry. At this time Alex also lectured in fashion design and illustration in Perth whilst still freelancing working with many national and international publishing houses and media companies. Today Alex is happy to share his knowledge, passion and expertise by aligning himself with his clients' projects to achieve their business goals.

At Alex Macgill Design, our mission is to provide exceptional design and illustration consulting services that empower our clients to achieve their design and business goals. We strive to deliver creative and customized solutions that meet the unique needs of each client. We achieve this by working in tandem with our clients. This starts with a chat about what needs to be achieved and then explore options and solutions. Usually, an hour or so is required to establish a plan going forward. Thereafter, if agreed on, we may commence drawing up a plan based on research and preliminary ideas.
